From Courtrooms to Consistency: My Wild Ride

Buckle up girlie! This is about to get crazy! So I started out as an attorney at a big law firm, which was amazing, but those billable hours? Not so much. I wanted time freedom and knew there was more for me. So, I started trying to figure my way out. While I was still practicing law, I wrote a manual to help folks like me pass the bar – the low passage rates for underrepresented groups needed a boost. It didn't generate enough sales to make leaving my job an option.

Then I tried my hand at a makeup company. No makeup background, just a side hustle to replace my income. But consistency and belief in myself? Not quite there yet, so I eventually stopped.

Through all of this, I was still practicing law, holding onto the security that $200K+ brought me. I was fearful to leave, worried about what people would think, and wondering how I'd manage without it.

I tried moving to Texas, interviewed for businesses, but got lowballed. Thank God, because it kept me where I needed to be. That’s where I met my husband in March 2022. After meeting my husband, who is a tech co-founder and entrepreneur, I observed someone living a full, fearless life. It gave me confidence and inspiration. I realized how unhappy I truly was – waking up dreading to go to work and eager to leave. That’s when I knew it was not meant for me to be at a law firm, working for someone else.

I prayed and talked to God, seeking guidance and strength. In April 2023, I took a leap of faith and quit my job. No plan B, just a desire for something more. A week later, my husband proposed in LA, and we got married in March 2024. Best. Decision. Ever.

Still had the entrepreneurial itch, so I dove into tech. Started a nonprofit called Moreworx, and then a tech company, Benechek, initially an AI-powered software for the nonprofit. We even won $10,000 in a pitch competition! But the hype fizzled out, and I went to work for my husband's startup as a contractor. For five months, I learned so much and realized that God would provide because it was a way for me to learn more about business and have steady income. But, in May 2024, the contract ended, and I had to figure it out. It turned out to be God-sent because it forced me out of my comfort zone.

That's when I had a heart-to-heart with myself and realized the issue was my lack of consistency, not ideas or vision. I lacked consistent execution. Benechek turned into an app to help people struggling with consistency, and over 50 people joined me within that first month. But then I realized supporting an app by myself with no team stretched me thin, and it ultimately just wasn’t fun.

By this point, I was just tired of starting and stopping. So, I started sharing my journey on TikTok. As I learned, I shared, and I gained over 3,000 followers in one month. That's when God gave me the confirmation that this is what I'm supposed to be doing.

The more I prayed, the more He revealed. Eventually, He gave me Dream Act Become because I was becoming the version of myself that I dreamed about and helping other women do the same.
